Dear NMKR community,
This time, we are featuring an Australia-based filmmaker, Jesse Jones, and his project to support the story of Habeeb in becoming an artist and filmmaker in Nigeria. Jesse is a very talented storyteller himself, and he has been using Cardano since last year. Let's dive in and find out more about his work.
Jesse: We initially started Global Vision as young film-makers trying to make our way in the video world and to have a company brand. The idea of Global Vision’s name was to “Capture the World '' and to Highlight what is right with this place we call home. The jobs and gigs that we were getting over the years started to drift from the media company's original mission in 2018. We left Global Vision on the sidelines for a few years to re-align with something closer to our initial intentions. We started to get very inspired by Cardano’s mission to change the world in early 2021.
We spent the time to sit down and try to film stories that were closer to helping people globally. We got back together as two film makers once again as Global Vision Media to produce “A Failed Artist”. After we launched The film at the beginning of 2022 we have been on the lookout for new stories to highlight. We felt like Habeeb’s story, and the story of Cardano aligned with the things we are trying to accomplish with Global Vision. So we recorded the whole process of what we wanted to do with Habeeb just in case it turned into something inspiring to others. Now we want to involve the Cardano community in Habeeb’s story of becoming an artist and filmmaker in Nigeria. The whole situation to us felt like it was towards the right path for us as storytellers and for our business.
Jesse: The biggest hurdle we are facing is the full trust, support and commitment to the stories we want to tell inside of the Cardano community. We definitely have a lot of people in the Cardano community cheering us on and supporting us trying new things like the gated ticket system to watch “A Failed Artist” when it initially launched. But for us to take the next step in terms of time/life commitment, we would need to know that people want to see stories of how Blockchain Technology can change the world. We want to know that there is a large enough group of people inside the Cardano community that want us to tell stories that utilize this technology to make the world a better place. That would help us to commit our time and resources to this mission full time.
Jesse: When we Launched our first documentary on Cardano we had a ticket sale of 15 ADA per ticket to watch the Film with a very large cap of the tickets that could be sold (FT). We had a developer help us with the ticket gate, and we split the ADA Profit between the 3 of us. We sold 184 (FT) Tickets for the Film. We then noticed a steep drop off in people wanting to see the film because it was exclusive, and not inclusive. So we decided to change the structure of how the value was shared, the new structure consists of someone being able to own a Frame from the film (NFT). If the film does well, they can choose to sell their share of the ownership of the film.
All the original ticket holders were airdropped 1 of 300 “Failed Frame’s” and we changed the price structure for new people wanting to own a Frame of the film to 77 ADA per frame. Since then, 2 frames have been sold. In a sense “A Failed Artist” failed, but that is part of the learning process for us. For Habeeb’s story, we have 50 Frames from his film “A Life Of Limitations” for sale via our website for 77ADA per frame. If we sell out of these 50 NFT’s, 4000 ADA will be sent to Habeeb for him to purchase a better laptop and a way to charge it.
The idea is to involve the Cardano Community with a real person to show how this technology can actually change people’s life. How we plan to grow in the future is to keep making interesting stories in both the real world, and the digital world. If we can get people excited about changing this world with the inspiring stories we get the opportunity to tell, we feel like it will have a snowball effect not only for us but for the community and world.
Jesse: We think that NMKR has a great vision and an interesting way to scale their business with their tokens. The utility you offer and great user interface helps make distributing art and content easier for the masses. In a professional sense we feel like there is an untapped Film/Video market in the crypto space. If there were tools and ways for story tellers to be able to fund their ideas and dreams, we believe that impact would be just as impactful for the video ecosystem as it was for the art ecosystem with NFT’s. We want to open up this beautiful opportunity to share and distribute stories with more film makers that have similar goals of changing the world as we do, again causing a snowball effect.
Jesse: The future for blockchain technology and decentralization really depends on the stories that we tell ourselves. Lately there has been a misunderstood story about crypto that it is just about money and getting rich, but that is a really poor story we are telling ourselves. If we change the story to something closer to “this technology has the power to actually change the fabric and structure of the entire human race forever”. That is a much more powerful story and that's when crypto will truly start to shine and open up opportunities to start changing the world at a very rapid pace.
